What is Roulette?

How do I play Roulette Online?

Roulette is one the easiest online casino games to learn and fun for both newcomers and veterans of the exciting online casino environment. It’s an awesome game to start out with if you’re new to online casinos, or to online gambling in general. We’ll make sure to tell you all you need to know about the game before your very first spin.

In Roulette, the dealer, often referred to as a croupier, controls the game and the pace at which it is played by announcing bets and outcomes and prompting players when it’s time for them to make their move. As mentioned earlier, Roulette revolves around a spinning wheel with numbered pockets and a tiny ball. Players place their bets on the ball falling into either a pocket with a single number, various combinations of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or high (19-36) or low (1-18) numbers.

Once each player has placed their bet, the croupier spins the wheel and drops the ball into it as it’s spinning at the start of each new round. The goal for the players is to correctly predict in which pocket the ball will ultimately end up. Doing this can be made easier by learning about specific Roulette odds and how to play your bets to increase your odds of winning.

Inside and Outside Bets

Roulette Online gives you several options to place bets. With players having absolutely no control over which pocket the ball will land in, success or failure depends entirely on luck alone.

Unlike other classic table or card games, like online video poker or blackjack, where your level of skill and experience in the game can increase your winning odds, the only way to gain an advantage in Roulette is through the variation you decide on. But let’s start with the two types of bets first:

Inside Bets

An inside bet is where you bet on one or more numbers inside the Roulette grid. These numbers consist of even and odd numbers from 0-36, plus an additional "00" pocket in American Roulette.

Outside Bets

An outside bet is where, you might have guessed already, you bet on one or more numbers on the outside of the Roulette grid. With outside bets, you can choose to wager on a grouping of numbers, such as pockets 1-12, 13-24, 25-36 or even 1-18 and 19-36! It's also possible to bet on all red or black number outcomes.

By making multiple bets, you have the advantage of being in a position to win back at least a portion of your total overall bet. Let's say, for example, you bet on all odd and all black numbers, and the ball lands in pocket black 10. This means you lose the odds part of your bet, but win the black part. If the ball would have landed on pocket black 13, you would have got a payout for both parts of your bet.

Roulette does not have any restrictions on the amount of bets you can place. And if you're playing for free, you don't have to worry about losing real money anyway. It's all about enjoying the game!

Online Roulette Variations

Besides the convenience and comfort of playing from your own home, playing Roulette at online casinos means you get to choose from a wide selection of different Roulette variations. Some of these can only be found on the web, unlike the land casinos that only offer the classic version even in 2021. 

Each variation of Roulette offers unique rules that might favor the players, or has fewer numbers on the wheel to increase the odds of winning. American Roulette

American Roulette is one of the most popular and played variations, widely available in both on and offline casinos across the globe. Despite it not being as old as the European and French variations, American Roulette is still considered to be the standard version by many fans of this classic casino game.

The big difference between American Roulette and the other variations, is the addition of a “00” pocket alongside the standard “0” found in the French and European versions. This means that American Roulette actually favors the house more than the other variations because there are more pockets for the ball to fall into, making the odds of winning slimmer. 

European Roulette

As mentioned earlier, the only difference between European and American Roulette, is the absence of the “00” pocket. With less "0" pockets on the European wheel, this means the house has a significantly smaller chance of winning as they always win when the ball lands on “0” or “00”.

French Roulette

While pretty much identical to European Roulette, French Roulette has two major differences in the form of the ‘La Partage’ and ‘En Prison Rule’ rules.

The first rule states that players with outside bets placed will only lose half of their wager if the ball lands on the “0” pocket. This only applies to outside bets, so inside bets do not count.

The ‘En Prison Rule’ rule basically puts players with outside even bets “in prison” whenever the ball lands on the “0” pocket. Players stuck in jail have to win their bet the next round to get out of jail free of charge, but will have to forfeit their entire wager should they lose.

Multiball Roulette

As the name implies, Multi Ball Roulette allows up to 10 balls to be in play at any given time. The specific amount of balls in the wheel has a direct effect on the odds and players can add or subtract balls until they are satisfied with the final number. This also gives players more chances to correctly predict the outcome as no two balls can land in the same pocket.

Bets are taken using the same rules as the classic one ball version, with the added feature of making call bets on top of inside and outside bets.

Multi Wheel Roulette

In online multi wheel Roulette you can have up to 8 wheels spinning at the same time. Your placed bets will extend across all 8 wheels, though it is possible for the player to deselect the number of wheels in play at any time until the desired amount is reached.

All 8 wheels follow the single “0” European Roulette variation. Winning bets either stay on the table for the next round or can be taken back to add to your bankroll. Each wheel spins independently, giving you up to 8 times more chances of winning than the classic Roulette variation.

Mini Roulette

The Mini Roulette variation features a smaller wheel than a classic 0-36 numbered wheel, which instead only goes up to 12. Like the European version, it only has a single “0” pocket.

In the event of a ball landing in the “0” pocket, half of the stake of all bets are returned to players. Besides this, and the smaller size of the Roulette wheel, bets are placed in the same way as the standard Roulette versions without any additional rules in play.

Live Dealer Roulette

The last variation of online Roulette on our list is Live Dealer Roulette. It features a real life croupier, even when you’re playing from the comfort of your own home. Players use their internet connection to link up to a live game being streamed in real time.
